After a very successful shopping spree of gifts and other things, we enjoyed the Canadian Beavers Tail. No, it's not an actual beavers tail. I got talking to a family who are originally from NZ and they said that this was a must try and that there were only 4 towns in the whole country that sold them, so we thought why not. They came in many flavors
and were definitely worth the try....so delicious! After this, we then went back to the motel and rugged up as best we could and headed for Lake Louise. This was by far the definite highlight of the day. The Lake was completely frozen over and we were able to walk all over it. It was absolutely stunning as the snow was as white as anything and the mountains that framed the lake just put the icing on the cake in all it's beauty. There were snow drifts all around the place and often were taller than I was.
On the edge of Lake Louise was a huge yet glamorous hotel which had an incredible view of everything. It was rather hard to imagine what the Lake would look like in summer with no ice or snow and warmer temperatures.
Not only was it beautiful but it had it's own fun. The younger boys enjoyed throwing snowballs that actually compacted together at us all and many tourists were making snowmen and snow angels. You had to be careful where you walked though as in some ares the snow was deep and other ares the snow had gone all slushy.
We all agreed that it was so worth it as it opened my eyes to see that only our Creator could put together such magnificent beauty for us.
We were talking to a lady in one of the hotel shops and she said that for some reason this part of the lake never actually completely freezes.
Looking down the lake. At the very end is a glacier.
The Hotel
What the onlookers in the restaurant of the hotel saw as they ate their meals.
After a good while at the lake, we made one more stop before coming home to Banff again for the night. This was just a look out but had some wildlife in view....Elk. Unfortunately, I was asleep at the time but mum got some awesome photos of them in the water.
By this stage, we're all ready to take it easy again after a long yet very enjoyable stage. We head back to the motel and sort out all our gifts before dining for dinner at the restaurant. After full stomachs, it's time to get ready for bed and see what tomorrows adventures bring...
Goodnight
